I couldn't wait to make a quick card this morning with the downloadable tags. I wish I had more time to stamp today to make them all.

This is a Valentine's card for my valentine. Tried not to make it too girly, but...well...

I am constantly inspired by PTI, and they often get the bulk of my stamping dollars. Designs) blog to make cards of the troops to send home to their families for Christmas. I thought it was a fantastic idea, and I have a brother-in-law in Iraq who can distribute cards to the people in his group.

The girls and I have been trying to make cards, we have only gotten about 20 done, but I want to get them sent out next week.

I was having trouble with the stamp set I had chosen to use, but today Patti suggested I use her cute Hero Arts set, and tonight I have been cranking out the cards like crazy. (Thanks, Patti!)

This is a closer view. I used the new Slice machine to cut the little Holiday Cheer tags. I really like the Slice, but I'm still learning how to use it.

The DP with blue is from Basic Grey. I think it is called Figgy Pudding. I love the simplicity of the entire set. I also enjoyed trying Papertrey's DP and card stock.

I usually judge paper by the way it feels. I'm extremely tactile, that's the way I pick clothing too. No wonder I am so casually dressed all of the time, I choose everything by the way it feels on my skin! Both the DP and the card stock feel significant in weight and smooth on one side and textured on the other.

I used Pink Patterns DP, Spring Moss and Dark Chocolate card stock. I also ran a small swatch of Kraft through the Cuttlebug embossed with swiss dots. And embellished with a button with a thread.

All of the supplies are from Papertrey, except the Spellbinder's Nestabilities for the scalloped rectangle, and the sentiment from Printworks.

I'm back to school (the beginning of my FINAL year of law school--woohoo!), so both card-making and posting will be less frequent.

Hope all is well with all of my blog-friends out there!Priscilla Heistadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07390382803151781486noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7413299196905334329.post-39383032908114761822008-08-06T16:29:00.012-05:002008-08-06T17:13:02.027-05:00NestingNo, I'm not having a baby, but the "nesting" urge has hit me big-time since the girls are coming home tonight from being away most of the summer. I found myself cleaning the entire house, their rooms, making beds, and even doing a little decorating.

The decorating is what brings me to this post. I made a quick dresser scarf for Savannah out of a piece of canvas I had lying around. I washed it first, then quick zig-zag stitched around the edges, added a piece of beaded embellishment that I had around and then stamped using an old SU! Definitely Decorative set. I stamped using acrylic paint, Copic ink, and also a Sharpie. I was using whatever was on-hand and nearby.

I also refinished a $5 table I bought at a crazy junk store here in DeKalb. I sanded it a little, spray painted it white, then stamped on white card stock using the same SU! set. Then I cut out and decoupaged the stamped images and some DP onto the table using Elmer's glue and then a clear gloss coat. Finally, I bought some rick rack and glued it to the edges of the table for a CUTE finish. I mixed up the clear coat with the base coat paint, so there's a bit of a white haze over the whole project, but it just looks fine in person.

Savannah is going to LOVE this shabby-chic addition to her room. As for Macie, it was time for her to get a new dresser and bed (from Ikea). She was using my sister's dresser from when she was born - 31 years ago. He's been trying to take me to this great place, Quivey's Grove, for a long time. So he decided to book a room off Hotwire and take me last Saturday. OK, so that's so sweet, but EVEN better he looked up about six stamp/scrap stores and took me on a little shopping tour. He even sat in the car and read a book while I shopped! What a guy.

I made these next two cards with DP and stamps I bought on that trip. I'll have to edit later with actual manufacturers.

The square card uses a Lockhart stamp, which I colored with my Copics. I also bought this "Shapeabilities" from Spellbinders to make the tag.

This card is a tri-fold. I used some fabulous DP to cover the front two panels. I love all of the color! The stamp is from PrintWorks, which I found at this little regional chain in Wisconsin, Scrapbook & Stamping Memories. I love the image so much and it is really simple to color in with Copics.

OK, I do realize that every card I make is crooked in some way. I guess that is something I should strive to fix.

So now I am back to reality. I am writing a paper for my summer class on the Constitutionality of School Fees. Yes, they are Federally Constitutional, but some state constitutions require FREE schools. Illinois is one of them, therefore I am scratching my head about the annual registration fees. It is perfect for a note to my Savannah, who truly sparkles.

Turns out Lockhart Stamp Co. is from Redmond, WA, same place as Microsoft. Just a little geography trivia.

The "You Sparkle" sentiment must be a Stampadoodle original, as there is no information on the stamp itself. I love this sentiment, it fits just about anyone on any given day! All of the paper is just scraps, so I don't know where it came from. But the exciting part of this card is that it is colored with Copics. I love the sketch tip, makes coloring so easy. I'm not a "shader" or a "blender" yet, but I love the functionality of Copics.

I have a few more Lockhart stamps on my wish list!Priscilla Heistadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07390382803151781486noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7413299196905334329.post-66277460069587814292008-07-10T00:04:00.003-05:002008-07-10T00:12:31.845-05:00Jumping for (Macie) JoyI've been busily stamping for the past few days and have really enjoyed a few new stamps. It is a tiny shop in North Seattle.

Isn't he precious? Ayden is a cancer survivor (Neuroblastoma--a rare childhood cancer) but you would never know that by spending any time with him. He and I had a fabulous two days, riding the bus all over Seattle. That was his only request, "Ride the bus?" and how could Auntie deny that adorable little face?

Back to the stamps, A Muse was very fun and as always there were many, many cute stamps. As you can see in the window, they made paper lanterns of their new cardstock...very fun. We missed Amuseapalooza in Seattle by about a week, but I was able to see the new Christmas stamps at my LSS, The Cottage Stamper in St. Charles, IL.

Also on my trip, I stopped at Stampadoodle, one of my mom's favorite stamp stores. (Their web site just doesn't do the store any justice. It is fabulous!) They have tons and tons of wood mounted stamps and also Nestabilities. I found this fabulous crab from Impression Obsession. I am experimenting coloring it with my Copics. Not ready for prime-time yet!

I've been stamping and organizing since I've been home. Later I will post my newest cards and my new stamp organizer. We lived on Whidbey Island for almost 10 years, so going back is always bittersweet. I really miss my family and my wonderful friends, but the time I've been in Illinois has really settled my spirit.

This photo is the only photo I could find of Whidbey Island. (It is a couple of years old, as can be seen from the sweet little faces.) To get to Whidbey, you take a ferry from the south (Seattle) or cross beautiful Deception Pass Bridge to the north. This is a view looking over the bridge. Whidbey is a very magical place.

We'll spend half of our time on Whidbey; have a quick visit with the girls who are spending the summer with their dad; then I'll have a couple of days in Seattle with my husband and my little nephew Ayden. He's two. I can't wait to see him.

We rarely spent time in Seattle when we lived there, so next week I'm going to hit Pike Place Market, the original Starbucks, and the A Muse shop. I don't know how I will be able to choose from the entire line of A Muse stamps in front of me. I hope Ayden doesn't get me kicked out!

I'll post a few photos (of the A Muse store) and bring back souvenirs (also from the A Muse store). It is a beautiful, sturdy butcher block table that he made for me a long time ago. (When I lived with just my two girls in a little apartment it was our dining room table.) My table suffered a little when we moved to Illinois and it has been wobbly ever since. So, while on vacation, my dad rebuilt the part of the table that keeps it all together. I am so happy it is no longer wobbly and would now survive a hurricane, uh...or a tornado.

I made this quick card to send to my dad to thank him for taking care of this silly project for me. This photo is not that great, but what I wanted to share was my little tab punch. I love how it looks like a file folder. A newspaper of course!

Tonight I decided to focus on a palette of black, white and red.

I just picked up a set of sentiments from which I used the word "Rejoice" at Archivers. It is a set called Everyday Sentiments from Autumn Leaves. I also used the large butterfly from a set by Inkadinkadoo. I absolutely love this set because it is full of bugs--lady bug, ants, butterflies, dragon fly, firefly, and a bee.

I think this card looks a little busy with all of the polka dots, but I like its intensity nonetheless.

My second Rejoice card in the same palette is a tulip stamp I picked up from Michaels. It is an Anna Griffin stamp. Tulips have a special place in my heart, since I lived in a Dutch town in Washington state. I especially love parrot tulips, rather than the perfectly formed traditional tulips. Although difficult to see, I added red glitter around the word and also along the petals of the tulip.

I think I'll take a moment tonight to Rejoice in all of the blessings God has given me. (OK, I confess, I've made 6 in two days and there's more to come!) It looks like she received one from Michelle Wooderson, whose blog I really enjoy. My first one (left) I gave to my friend Becky. She doesn't really understand the paper crafting "thing" but she loves getting presents!

I am going to put these together for end of year teacher gifts, so I made these with little pockets on the inside cover where I can stash Starbucks gift cards for an extra treat!

To get started:
Buy 5"x8" notepads at your local office supply store, and ask them to cut them in half widthwise, which makes 2-1/2"x8" pads. It cost me $1.09 to have the stack of notebooks cut at Office Max, but there's no way a paper cutter would get through an entire pad.

Then you'll need to do a little measuring to get the folder just right; be sure to use a slip of corresponding paper to cover the header of the tablet, otherwise yours will say "eMax" like mine does below...

Just add lots of patterned paper, embellishments and glitter to the cover for fabulous and fun gifts!

Below are five I made last night; one for my sister (center) which I used "My Friend Ronnie" stamps. It says, "I shopped, and then I didn't. I like shopping better." I really enjoy Ronnie stamps. They are so perfect.

Two are for Macie and Sarah who are having their "Sisters Weekend" beginning tonight. I thought they could use pads to prepare for tomorrow's entrepreneurial adventure (they are hosting a garage sale...yikes!). Then I made two for Savannah and her friend Caroline who are planning an end of the year sleepover (double yikes!). Aren't they adorable? So easy to customize for anyone. (Yes, it was Patti's husband and children!) It was such a special day for Patti's family. It was a beautiful baptism that reminded me of our church in Washington where my husband, girls and I were baptized and also where my husband and I were married. So bittersweet.

So back to the projects. I'm using a new photographer (a 10 year-old photographer named Macie), so some of the details are not visible. I used regular composition notebooks that I bought last year at back-to-school time (the ones with black and white covers). I covered the fronts, backs and inside covers. Then I decorated them up!

My challenge was to make a masculine design for Chris without being too hokey. I used blue and chocolate brown, hard lines, and only initials, instead of his name. The scripture that personifies Chris is Joshua 24:15 "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

For Jacob, I had been thinking for a couple of days that his scripture should be from Proverbs. I'm not even sure why. Then, I ran across Proverbs 3:5-6 which is a great reminder to put our trust in the Lord and leave it there. Good message for a tween! This was the first time I used staples in my design and it did give a more industrial look to the design.

Sarah, like my Macie, hates pink and loves blue. So alas, I had to continue working in blue. I love the scripture about how God loves us so much more than the sparrows. I wanted Sarah to always remember that God loves her so much. I used Luke 12:6-7. The birds are a stamp from Inkadinkadoo that I picked up at Hobby Lobby. I embossed them in copper, which is very striking. There are such wonderful bird silhouettes available now.

These composition books are super easy and super fun. Then just a quick "BLOOM" and voila!

I think I am going to make more BLOOM cards, although I have never re-made a card, I think I could do a whole set of stationary, or just a handful of cards available to send on the run...speaking of running...Priscilla Heistadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07390382803151781486noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7413299196905334329.post-15177699037489958742008-05-19T17:03:00.006-05:002008-05-19T17:15:23.415-05:00Yippee!

That was my mom's expression on these flowers that she and my dad sent in celebration of completing my second year of law school. It was a crummy semester, and I wasn't sure it was EVER going to end. But alas, I wrote my fifth and final exam last Thursday and have spend the weekend recuperating.

So Friday, I made my husband, Mark, traipse through our downtown junk stores looking for an old lazy susan for my embellishments. I didn't find a lazy susan, but I found this fabulous wooden spice rack. It was all gunky from years in a kitchen and still had old, dried spices in the bottles. (Yuck!) My daughters helped me clean out the jars and I ran them through the dishwasher. Then I spray painted the shelf (after I washed it and sanded it just a bit to rough up the surface). Since I did a really cursory spray painting job (because I only had a little paint left), I decided it needed to be decorated too. I glued ribbon across the shelves and then glued chipboard flowers from K&Co to the top. I am so excited about how it turned out. The bottles are sparkly clean and most of my embellishments and some of my other supplies fit on it perfectly. I love it!

So today's word is "Yippee!"Priscilla Heistadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07390382803151781486noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7413299196905334329.post-8163228894747614492008-05-09T08:55:00.006-05:002008-05-09T09:14:09.792-05:00Ruth's Birthday<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfPuNzX2gGpDn5dS-kt79YbDxI0TMMFTovab52QOSc5FHiCE8q7s1Cn7Fxk30JIW0Y8P6b4uBRGFyZJk2z6BR55ItX9UBgXz0m7RF_OMyzV6HT4e-2T00-ZKdGGBDM4SKdg-EkfZa7WDSX/s400/ruths_bday_card.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5198380608626946450" />
My friend Ruth is another mom who is surviving law school with me. We often laugh about how OLD we are compared to our other classmates (who were born in the 80's-when we were teenagers, spraying our hair with Aquanet). They have never heard of Debbie Gibson, and they think Madonna is "so classic!"

Ruth and I spent the first year of law school asking each other, "Why are we doing this?" Our second year, we've been asking each other, "Is it too late to quit?" It is too late to quit now, we just have one more year left. Woohoo!

I didn't keep track of my supplies and since we are right in the middle of exams, I'll have to update that later.

I thank God every day for such a wonderful friend who "gets" me. She is a beautiful Christian woman and dedicated mother. Her passion is to work in Immigration Law where she can help people. Happy birthday, Ruth!Priscilla Heistadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07390382803151781486noreply@blogger.com2
